Changes abound and effinnerds.com is not immune. Your intrepid leader has skipped on down from the Bay to L.A. — which is what I’m blaming the long writing break on. I rarely talk about my own personal life, unless it’s related to an Internet scam or bad luck at the EDD office, so this is our chance to catch up. Here is a simple iPhone photo essay of my break from San Francisco and my new adventures in Los Angeles.

Our Experience at the Taping of the Colbert Report
Earlier this week, I told you the heartbreaking tale of my almost admission into the taping of the Colbert Report. My friend Amanda and I were numbers 15 and 16. When it came time for us to be admitted, we got the door slammed in our faces, as number 14 was the last person to get a ticket.
Read about our experience in line and details from the taping of the show after the jump.

Anatomy of a “Colbert Report” Experience

Some of us are a glutton for punishment. Hello, it’s me, Chenda, your intrepid heroine. A few days ago, you saw me and my friends get PWND by Saturday Night Live. Since my friend Amanda is on spring break from NYU grad school, she asked me to join her today, Monday, for the Colbert Report.

OMFG: The Sarah Palin Calendar

This just came to my attention via my BFF, Damon. I guess Saracuda is cashing in on her popularity while she can. After all, her reputation is continuing to take a nosedive, with her press tour of bitter comments that show how much of a soar loser she is. I’ll admit, though, that the people are still fascinated with her, but sadly, for the same reasons we were fascinated with Britney Spears during her head-shaving period. I doubt she cares, though, it seems like she is soaking up the attention and loving it. Next up, her hunting show: Bloody Polar Bears with Sarah Palin.

A Holiday in Cambodia
Greetings, friends. Chenda here. I’ll be away for the next two weeks, to attend a wedding in Cambodia. Check out the rest of this post to see the pics of the resort I’ll be at. Don’t be too jealous… the flight time is 18-hours. I don’t think the hotel has Wi-Fi, but if they do, I’ll try to post from my iPhone. Check back soon for more juicy, dirty, tech news… and the latest, in-depth analysis of celebrity gossip. Happy New Year!
xoxo,
Chenda

Better 3G in Akron than in San Francisco?
Over my Thanksgiving break, I experienced a lot of great things: I had great meals, went to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and I experienced Awesome 3G. That’s right. There I was in a basement in Akron, OH when it occured to me and my boyfriend that we were getting amazingly fast 3G. It didn’t matter if we were traveling from town to town or if we were in the basement, we always had good 3G action.
So, this made me wonder why it is that in our apartment in San Mateo, CA–in the heart of the dot coms, the hardware companies, and tech publishing–can only get the Edge Network. And why in some places in San Francisco, San Jose, Los Gatos, Mt. View, etc, we were experiencing such slow speeds.
I don’t mean to be a snob about it, but when you are the heart of the tech industry, you need to have the best technology. And it’s up to AT&T and Apple to ensure that the people who are building the technology and most likely to report about these things are not getting screwed.
I will definitely be following-up on this topic from time to time because it just irks me that we’re paying for a service that is sub-par. Especially now that I’ve experienced what it can be.

Great Lakes Brewing Co.
It’s no secret that, like most other people, I left town for Thanksgiving weekend. As a matter of fact, I’m still in Cleveland, waiting to board a flight to SFO via Houston, TX. So I thought I would take this time to rave about the Great Lakes Brewing Co. in Cleveland, OH.
The food and atmosphere were great. It was your average micro-brew restaurant menu. The most interesting part of my experience was eating a burger made with Amish beef and cheese. Yeah, Amish. It’s such a foreign concept in California. But it was great and knowing that the Amish are organic, old world farmers made the experience even better. I topped off my meal with the famous Great Lakes Christmas Ale, which is fantastic for anyone who loves a good Amber micro-brew.
Another interesting factoid was that thier new beer garden has a geo-thermal heated floor and uses hay as insolation. I was really impressed by the modern technology at such an unassuming locale–Cleveland, OH.
I would recommend the Great Lakes Brewing Co. to anyone who is in the Cleveland area.
