1,000 Days of Chenda

In my ever evolving love-hate relationship with revealing too much online, I’ve decided to take the plunge and give the Internet a peep inside of my world for 1,000 days. Read on Citizens of the Interweb, this story is made in social networking heaven.

It all began when I downloaded the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone to take some graduations pictures. When I finally tried the app, I had a cross processing love affair. For a buck ninety-nine, I got my passion for photography back. Two snaps up and a bottle of non-toxic developer. Mkay?

A few days later on my Facebook feed, I noticed a friend of mine uploading her mobile pictures to posterous.com, as an all mobile photos blog. Then bing! The lightbulb in my tiny brain went off and I decided to start my photo blog right away.

I have a handful of friends who have done 365 photo projects and they were fun to flip through. So I leaped onto the bandwagon with no hesitation. This project is no different, but I did set up a few arbitrary ground rules for myself.

1.Photos will be taken with the Hipstamatic App.

2.Photos will be mailed in directly from the iPhone.

3.All pictures posted must be taken on the same day.

4.One day = one picture. No more, no less. Any tubular left-over pics will be spit out into my Twitter feed.

5.An even larger collection of out takes will eventually show up on this blog.

6.I am allowed to take as many photos of food or objects around my house as I please. My daily mantra will be, “Not everyday is a fabulous and adventurous day. We do what we can.”

7.If I don’t make it to even 100 days, no big whoop. There are thousands of cat pictures to keep the Internet happy, right?

I finally made the decision to autopost to effinnerds.com today — Day 50. Can you believe it?  If all goes well, posterous will be sending a picture a day to this blog. So ladies and gentleman, I’d like to present:

MAKE: Chicken Tetrazzini

If you ever watched The Soup in 2009, you know that there is a certain dish that became a pop culture phenomenon. That’s right, Chicken Tetrazzini! Here at Effin’ Nerds, we’ve begun to step away from the microwave and begin cooking the old fashioned way. What a better way to start than with some Chicken Tetrazzini!

I got the recipe from my iPhone’s Betty Crocker app, but you can find it at BettyCrocker.com. This recipe is a lot easier than the version found on Epicurious. Here are the ingredients from the website. Keep reading…

The Surrogates Graphic Novel on Your iPhone

surrogates1

With the recent release of the film version of The Surrogates, I thought it would be cool to read the graphic novel first. So I downloaded The Surrogates application for my iPhone and it is beautiful. This is a great way to turn newbies onto the five-part series. The application translates the art work magnificently and there is an option to buy the print edition right from the app. Here are some more screen shots of the application.

Sirius XM iPhone App Unleashed Tomorrow

3-12-09-sirius-xm-iphone

The Sirius XM satellite radio is coming to your iPhone on June 18th. It seems like the app itself will be free to download, but if you have a free account for the online service, you’ll have to pay $2.99 to subscribe to the mobile service. Not a bad price to have Stern in your pants. More details at Engadget.

TweetDeck Coming to iPhone

img_0374

I stole this screen shot from kevinrose.com. But here you you Tweeps. Yet another App to add to your phone. I’m not currently using TweetDeck, so I don’t know yet if I’ll switch over. I don’t have a desktop Twitter App and I’m using TwitterFon on my iPhone. But Mr. Rose seems to be sold, so I’m guessing millions of fanboys an girls will follow suit. On a personal note, I like how KR takes a screen shot at 11:11AM… superstious?

More stolen screen shots…

Get effinnerds on Stanza

That’s right. I’ve turned this baby into a Newspaper/Feed on Stanza for the iPhone via Feedbooks. It’s a semi-long process to start from scratch, but it’s worth it because you’ll get your start on Stanza. Full disclosure: The video links and some image links don’t come through, thus leaving behind the html code in the text. It’s not too bad, though. I hardly notice.

So, What is Stanza?

Stanza is an awesome, free eBook reader for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It lets you download and read all types of book–many for free. You may know Stanza’s competitor, eReader.

Great. How do I get effinnerds on Stanza?

1. You need to have an iPhone or iPod Touch.

2. Get the Stanza Application (free).

3. Create an account on Feedbooks.

4. Launch Stanza

5. Click on “Online Catalog”

6. Click on “Newspapers & Magazines”

7. Search for effinnerds.com

8. Download (free)

9. Win!

Better 3G in Akron than in San Francisco?

Over my Thanksgiving break, I experienced a lot of great things: I had great meals, went to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and I experienced Awesome 3G. That’s right. There I was in a basement in Akron, OH when it occured to me and my boyfriend that we were getting amazingly fast 3G.  It didn’t matter if we were traveling from town to town or if we were in the basement, we always had good 3G action.

So, this made me wonder why it is that in our apartment in San Mateo, CA–in the heart of the dot coms, the hardware companies, and tech publishing–can only get the Edge Network. And why in some places in San Francisco, San Jose, Los Gatos, Mt. View, etc, we were experiencing such slow speeds.

I don’t mean to be a snob about it, but when you are the heart of the tech industry, you need to have the best technology. And it’s up to AT&T and Apple to ensure that the people who are building the technology and most likely to report about these things are not getting screwed.

I will definitely be following-up on this topic from time to time because it just irks me that we’re paying for a service that is sub-par.  Especially now that I’ve experienced what it can be.

iPhone OS 2.2 Midnight Madness

The new update for the iPhone is out. The main highlight that I’m interested in is the Google Street View. That is something that the the T-mobile G1 had, right out the gate. It does not, however,  include compass mode, which was one of the coolest things about the G1, but it’s an improvement. Now, let’s see if I can use Safari once without crashing. In depth reviews at ars technica and engadget.

WordPress for iPhone

This is my first post from WordPress for the iPhone, and it is a pretty awesome app. I’ve posted things to Blogger from iPhone in the past, and it was a pretty average experience. Although, that was via email and not an actual application.

The WP app has an easy user interface and allows tags and categories… Not bad for a totally free service.

The one downfall that the WordPress app has is that there is no option to post a picture–at least not one that I’ve found yet. I’ll be spending more time exploring this app in the days to come.
